GE Vernova Park: A New Home for Soccer in the Upstate
The Upstate region is set to witness the inauguration of its first permanent professional soccer venue this week, as the Greenville Triumph prepares to kick off at GE Vernova Park in Mauldin on June 3. The outdoor stadium, located at BridgeWay Station, is the culmination of efforts by Greenville Pro Soccer, the organization behind the Triumph men's team and the Greenville Liberty women's pre-professional team. Spearheaded by businessman Joe Erwin, the club's quest for a stadium site has finally come to fruition, with additional support from new investors, including soccer icon Ronaldinho. Mauldin and South Carolina provided government funding, while Hughes Investments, the developer of BridgeWay Station, contributed land and resources to make the project a reality.
With a seating capacity of 4,300 and standing room for 6,300, GE Vernova Park is poised to become a hub for various community events, with soccer taking center stage. The stadium's versatile design will accommodate not only soccer matches but also youth and college sports, concerts, festivals, marching band competitions, and other community gatherings. The establishment of this outdoor venue reflects the growing interest in soccer in the region and offers a platform for the Triumph and the Liberty to potentially ascend to top-tier soccer leagues, challenging the likes of Major League Soccer and the National Women's Soccer League.
The much-anticipated inaugural game at GE Vernova Park will feature the Greenville Triumph facing off against Forward Madison FC on June 3, with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m. Parking options for spectators include Holland Park Church, Green Lot, Five Forks Methodist Church, Mauldin High School, and Jackson Marketing. As the Upstate embraces its new soccer home, the community can look forward to a vibrant array of sporting and cultural events at GE Vernova Park, fostering a sense of unity and excitement among fans and residents alike.
