Saner's Vibrant Murals: A Fusion of Mexican Culture and Toronto's Creative Landscape
Saner, a renowned street artist from Mexico City, has brought his vibrant murals to Toronto in a collaboration with Modelo, a Mexican beer producer. The artist, known as Edgar Flores, unveiled two large-scale public artworks in the Ossington and Queen Street West neighborhoods, infusing Mexican folklore, surrealism, and social commentary into Toronto's creative landscape.
Saner has gained international acclaim for his massive murals in cities like Tokyo, London, Barcelona, and New York City. His distinctive style features traditional masks, mythical alebrijes, and dreamlike imagery that reinterpret Mexican cultural history on a grand scale.
The Toronto project showcases two unique murals. "The Dreamscape" in the Ossington neighborhood explores Mexican heritage through colorful alebrijes and folkloric symbolism, while "The Melody" in Queen West draws inspiration from Mexico City's romance and nightlife, incorporating mariachi and norteƱo music themes.
The collaboration with Modelo aims to bring an authentic expression of contemporary Mexican creativity to Canadian audiences. The murals, set in Toronto's art-forward streets, connect Saner's craftsmanship and storytelling with Modelo's pride, passion, and identity as a beer brand.
During his visit to Toronto, Saner shared insights into his career, inspiration for the murals, and future projects. His experience in Canada, exploring the country with his family, has added a new perspective to his artistic journey.
With over 20 years of experience in various artistic projects, Saner's passion for drawing led him to pursue a formal artistic career in 2008. His collaboration with Modelo provided a platform to showcase his unique interpretation of Mexican culture through mysticism, magic, and imagination.
The Ossington mural features elements like nahuales, masks, hummingbirds, and alebrijes, inviting viewers into a mystical world of tradition and fantasy. The Queen Street West mural continues the narrative with a romantic, music-inspired theme, celebrating Mexican culture and paying homage to Modelo.
Collaborating with Modelo Canada and Kadence World allowed Saner to have creative freedom and a unique working experience. Excited about future collaborations, Saner is looking forward to upcoming projects, including magazine illustrations, World Cup-themed prints, and new pieces at his gallery in Mexico City.
