Unlocking AI Success: The Crucial Role of Network Infrastructure in Enterprise AI Implementations

Enterprises worldwide are ramping up their investments in artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to stay competitive in the market. However, a recent IDC InfoBrief revealed that less than a quarter of organizations have seen their AI implementations meet or exceed expectations. The study, which surveyed 800 technology leaders across Europe, the US, and APAC, highlighted that while 70% of organizations are investing in AI, many struggle with evaluating the return on investment (ROI) effectively.

AI has emerged as a top priority for organizations when it comes to technology investments, with 51% of respondents indicating that they plan to prioritize AI or machine learning (ML) in the next 12 months. Despite the enthusiasm for AI, only 19% of organizations reported that their AI implementations have exceeded expectations, with reasons for underperformance including issues with training data quality, unexpected costs, and AI not meeting performance expectations.

One of the key challenges hindering successful AI implementations is the lack of network and infrastructure readiness. A significant portion of organizations (26%) cited inadequate network or connectivity performance as a factor contributing to the failure of their AI projects. Looking ahead, many organizations recognize the need for more flexible, scalable, resilient, and reliable networks to support their AI initiatives and ensure optimal performance and uptime.

Ben Elms, CEO of Expereo, emphasized the importance of having a robust network infrastructure to support AI initiatives. He noted that while enterprises are heavily investing in AI, the success of AI projects ultimately depends on the underlying network infrastructure's ability to handle the demands of AI applications. To bridge the gap between AI ambition and outcomes, organizations must prioritize building a network infrastructure that can effectively support their AI initiatives and drive successful outcomes.
