Vancouver Goldeneyes Part Ways with Head Coach Brian Idalski After Inaugural Season

The Vancouver Goldeneyes have made the decision to part ways with head coach Brian Idalski following the team's first season in the Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL). Idalski led the team to a sixth-place finish in the league with a record of 9-3-4-14, missing out on the playoffs. Despite a late-season surge that earned them the first overall draft pick, the team decided to make a change in leadership.

Goldeneyes general manager Cara Gardner Morey expressed gratitude for Idalski's professionalism and dedication during his time with the team. She acknowledged his role in establishing the foundation of the organization in its inaugural year. The team's strong attendance numbers, averaging over 11,200 fans per game, did not translate into on-ice success, leading to the decision to part ways with Idalski.

Idalski's coaching experience includes successful stints at St. Cloud State University, the University of North Dakota, and the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. He also achieved coaching success in China with the KRS Vanke Rays, winning two Zhenskaya Hockey League titles and coaching China's women's hockey team at the 2022 Beijing Olympics. Travel challenges and the team's performance were cited as factors in the decision to part ways with Idalski.

The Vancouver Goldeneyes have bid farewell to head coach Brian Idalski after a season that fell short of playoff qualification in the Professional Women's Hockey League. Despite his contributions to the team's foundation and the unique challenges faced during the inaugural season, the decision was made to seek new leadership for the future.
