2027 NHL All-Star Game: New Format, Five Teams, and Exciting Competition at UBS Arena

The NHL All-Star Game in 2027 will feature a new format with five teams competing in a 3-on-3 round-robin exhibition tournament at UBS Arena, home of the New York Islanders. The teams include Canada, Finland, Sweden, United States, and World, with the World team comprising international players from countries not represented by the other teams. Each team will play four five-minute games, with a points system determining the top two teams for a 10-minute final to win a $2 million prize. The event will not have an overtime period or shootout in case of a tie.
Each team will consist of nine skaters and two goalies, with 30 players from each team selected for a fan vote in December. Fans will choose eight players from each team, while the NHL and NHLPA will select the remaining three players. The All-Star Skills competition will also return, featuring 10 players competing in six events with a point system ranking them. The top four players will advance to a Shootout, with the top two performers facing off in the Obstacle Course Finale for a chance to win $1 million.
The 2027 NHL All-Star Skills will be broadcast on ESPN and Sportsnet, with the game airing on ABC and Sportsnet. The event schedule will be announced in the coming months. The last NHL All-Star Game was held in 2024 at Scotiabank Arena, where Team Matthews emerged victorious. Prior to the new format, the NHL used a divisional format from 2016 to 2023.
