Raw Milk Outbreak Investigation: What You Need to Know

The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare (DHW) has launched an investigation into two outbreaks linked to raw milk consumption. Over 60 individuals have fallen ill since May 19, with most cases associated with unpasteurized raw milk from dairy farms in northern and southern Idaho. At least 45 people tested positive for campylobacteriosis, a bacterial infection.

Campylobacteriosis symptoms typically appear within two to five days of exposure and can last up to a week. If you have consumed raw milk and experience symptoms such as diarrhea, abdominal pain, fever, and vomiting, it is essential to seek medical attention promptly. DHW is working to pinpoint potentially contaminated milk batches and is conducting tests on milk samples to determine the source of the outbreaks.

If you have consumed raw milk and are experiencing symptoms of campylobacteriosis, contact your local public health district to report your illness and seek further guidance. It is crucial to prioritize your health and well-being by taking appropriate action if you suspect you have been affected by the recent outbreaks.
