Comcast NBCUniversal and the UK government have announced a joint investment of £7.3bn ($9.8bn) to establish Universal's inaugural European theme park, named Universal United Kingdom Resort. NBCUniversal will contribute over £5bn ($6.7bn) towards the resort complex in Bedford, north of London, with an anticipated five-year construction period leading up to the park's anticipated opening in 2031. Additionally, NBCUniversal plans to invest an extra £1bn ($1.3bn) in capital expenditure during the initial decade of operation.
