Expanding the DC Universe: A Look at Upcoming Movies and TV Shows

The DC Universe is expanding with new movies and TV shows. James Gunn's "Superman" started things off last year, and upcoming releases include "Supergirl," "Clayface," and "Lanterns." Gunn, who is also the co-head of DC Studios at Warner Bros., is currently filming "Man of Tomorrow," featuring the villain Brainiac. The movie is set in summer 2027, according to Gunn's recent comments on social media.

Gunn aims to keep the DC Universe timeline straightforward for fans. He mentioned that the movies and shows will be released in real-time order, making it easier for audiences to follow along. While "Man of Tomorrow" fits into this timeline, "Clayface" will be the first DCU film out of chronological order, focusing on the Batman villain in an R-rated movie.

Warner Bros. and Gunn prioritize simplicity in the DC Universe timeline to avoid the continuity issues faced by the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While there may be outliers like "The Batman Part II," set in winter and outside the DCU continuity, efforts will be made to clarify these exceptions to casual audiences. "Man of Tomorrow" will see the return of David Corenswet as Superman and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, teaming up against a common threat, likely Brainiac.

Looking ahead, the DC Universe has several projects in development, including TV shows like "Creature Commandos" Season 2, "Waller," and "Booster Gold," as well as movies like a "Wonder Woman" reboot, "The Brave and the Bold," and "Teen Titans." Release dates for these projects are yet to be confirmed.
