Building on Tradition: Meet Houston High School's New Baseball Coach, Chris Mitchell

Houston High School's baseball team has a new head coach, Chris Mitchell, who previously coached at Lausanne. Mitchell takes over from former coach Lane McCarter, who was removed in March after 26 years with the program. Assistant coach Jared Schmitt served as the interim coach and led the team to a region championship and a runner-up finish in the Class 4A state championship game.

Mitchell, a Christian Brothers High School graduate, started the baseball program at Lausanne in 2018. Under his leadership, Lausanne had five consecutive winning seasons, including a 21-12 record in the 2026 season. Mitchell's experience in building successful programs will be valuable as he takes on the role at Houston High School.

Houston High School's baseball program has a strong tradition of success, with the team winning at least 20 games every season since 2012. Mitchell will inherit a talented group of players who are used to winning and will look to build on the team's recent achievements. His coaching style and experience will be instrumental in continuing the program's winning legacy.

With Mitchell at the helm, Houston High School's baseball team is poised for continued success on the field. His track record of building successful programs and developing players will be key in maintaining the team's winning culture. The Mustangs can look forward to a bright future under Mitchell's leadership.
