Hyundai Adjusts Pricing and Features for Kona Electric and Ioniq 5 EV Models: What You Need to Know

The electric vehicle (EV) price competition is intensifying as more models are hitting the market below $50k and $40k, prompting other carmakers to adjust their pricing strategies to stay competitive. Hyundai has recently announced new pricing for their Ioniq 5 and Kona Electric SUVs, including a new Kona Electric variant called the 'Elite' version. The Kona Electric Standard Range now starts at $46,000, while the new Elite variant is priced from $53,000. The Ioniq 5 range now begins at $68,200. The IONIQ 5 Premium N Line variant now features leather sport seats with N logos.

However, these price adjustments come with some trade-offs. The portable charger that used to come standard with both models has been removed, as well as the interior 230V 3-pin vehicle to load (V2L) outlets. The Kona Electric has also seen some feature downgrades, such as the removal of the heat-pump and a return to a less efficient resistive element heater system. These changes could potentially reduce the driving range by up to 10% if the heater is used frequently. Additionally, the electrochromic rear vision mirror has been replaced with a manually operated one in the Kona.

The updated Kona Electric and Ioniq 5 models are now available for order, with deliveries expected to start from June. Hyundai is currently offering limited-time 'drive-away' deals for the Kona Electric close to the newly announced prices from June 1 to June 30.
