The Florida Gators' 2027 recruiting class received a boost with the commitment of four-star linebacker Ellis McGaskin from Mobile, Alabama. McGaskin, ranked as the No. 6 linebacker by ESPN, chose Florida over Florida State and LSU. This commitment adds to the Gators' strong recruiting class, which already includes another four-star linebacker, Ja'Bios Smith.
After an official visit to Florida, McGaskin declared the Gators as his leader and ultimately made his commitment to the program. Despite initial plans to wait until after official visits to Georgia, Florida State, and LSU, McGaskin announced his top three schools and commitment date earlier than expected. Georgia did not make the cut in his final decision.
McGaskin's commitment comes as Florida competes with Texas A&M for a top recruiting class in the country. The Gators have secured commitments from several highly-rated prospects, including offensive lineman Kennedee Jackson, edge rusher Cahron Wheeler, and defensive lineman Zahmar Tookes.
