Exploring the World of Series: The Italian Global Series Festival 2022
The Italian Global Series (IGS) festival is set to take place in two coastal cities in Italy next month, featuring a lineup of stars, writers, actors, and producers from the world of series. The festival will include special celebrations, including the 60th anniversary of Star Trek and the 50th anniversary of Franco Zeffirelli’s Jesus of Nazareth. Additionally, the 30th anniversary of Italy’s longest-running soap opera, Un posto al sole, will be celebrated with a discussion led by actress Michela Giraud.
Notable attendees at this year’s festival include British actors John Hannah and Bertie Carvel. The festival, under the artistic direction of Marco Spagnoli, will showcase a variety of programs, including International Competition selections, Conversations series, and Italian premieres. The festival will be held in Rimini and Riccione, with the closing night ceremony taking place in Rimini on July 11.
The International Competition received over 160 submissions from around the world, with 21 series from 15 countries selected for the competition. The competition includes categories for drama, comedy, and limited series, with awards presented for best series, lead actor, lead actress, and creator/director. Marti Noxon, Nicholas Meyer, and Bruno Gouery will serve as presidents of the competition juries.
The festival will feature conversations with industry professionals, including Carlton Cuse, David W. Zucker, Steve Stark, Ozge Gürel, Serkan Çayoğlu, Jeri Ryan, and more. Special events include a preview screening of an episode of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. The festival will also host a variety of sessions and discussions with industry experts and stars.
The International Competition lineup for the festival includes a diverse selection of series from around the world. The Drama Section features series such as Benidorm Is Murder, Emergency 53, Secret Service, Speaking Dead, Burden of Justice, and more. The Limited Series Section includes titles like Le Rouge et Le Noir, Falling, The Widow Killer, Raza Brava, Laura’s Treatment, and The Tribute. The Comedy Section includes series like Boho, The Flaws, Happily Ever After, Una piccola formalità, Leonard and Hungry Paul, Riot Women, and Cell Block B.
