Hilary Knight Joins Detroit Team in PWHL Sign-and-Trade Deal

Hilary Knight, a prominent figure in women's hockey, is set to join the PWHL's new team in Detroit through a sign-and-trade deal. The deal involves Knight signing a foundational contract with Las Vegas before being traded to Detroit in exchange for the team's first-round draft pick. This trade is expected to be finalized after the PWHL's trade freeze lifts on June 16, just before the draft.
Knight, a five-time U.S. Olympian, recently led Team USA to a gold medal at the Milan Cortina Games. Despite announcing that the Olympics would be her last, Knight plans to continue her professional career. This move to Detroit marks her second consecutive offseason change, having previously played for the Seattle Torrent.
In Detroit, Knight will join a roster that includes other U.S. gold medal-winning teammates and will be coached by Josh Sciba, who was an assistant on the U.S. Olympic team. The team has also signed forward Jesse Compher, who won a silver medal at the 2022 Beijing Games, to fill their fifth expansion spot.
Knight's impressive career includes multiple Olympic medals and records in international competitions. Her trade to Detroit comes after a successful season and personal milestones, including getting engaged to American speedskater Brittany Bowe. Knight's addition to the Detroit team adds experience and skill to their lineup, enhancing their chances for success in the upcoming season.
