Karlovy Vary Intl. Film Festival Honors Maggie Gyllenhaal and Jesse Eisenberg: A Celebration of Contemporary Cinema Trends

The 60th edition of the Karlovy Vary Intl. Film Festival will pay tribute to acclaimed actress, director, and screenwriter Maggie Gyllenhaal and versatile actor, director, and screenwriter Jesse Eisenberg. Artistic director Karel Och praised their ability to bridge the gap between the New World and Europe with their unique artistic sensibilities. The festival's executive director, Kryštof Mucha, expressed excitement about welcoming these two creative individuals whose work reflects contemporary cinema trends and offers audiences an intense cinematic experience.

Maggie Gyllenhaal, a Golden Globe winner and two-time Academy Award nominee, will receive the President's Award at the opening ceremony. She will present her film "The Bride!" (2026), a modern take on the classic Frankenstein story, featuring a star-studded cast including Jessie Buckley, Christian Bale, and Penélope Cruz. Gyllenhaal's directorial debut, "The Lost Daughter," based on Elena Ferrante's novel, received critical acclaim and multiple Academy Award nominations.

Jesse Eisenberg, a two-time Oscar nominee, will also be honored with the President's Award. The festival will screen "The Double," a film directed by Richard Ayoade, showcasing Eisenberg in the lead role. Eisenberg's directorial debut, "When You Finish Saving the World," premiered at Cannes and garnered attention for its poignant storytelling. His second film, "A Real Pain" (2024), earned him accolades and nominations for his screenplay and acting performance.

Eisenberg's upcoming project as a writer/director, "The Debut," features Julianne Moore and Paul Giamatti and includes a musical component with original music and lyrics by Eisenberg. The film is set for release in Fall 2026 by A24. The Karlovy Vary Intl.
