Meet the Cast of 'The Catch': Emma Stone, Chris Pine, and Ashley Padilla in Universal Pictures' Upcoming Rom-Com

Ashley Padilla, a rising star from Saturday Night Live, has joined Emma Stone and Chris Pine in The Catch, a romantic comedy by Universal Pictures. The film, directed by Dave McCary, is set to start filming in July in New York. While specific plot details are under wraps, sources describe the rom-com as a mix of Bull Durham and Notting Hill, with Stone portraying the most disliked woman in baseball. Padilla will play Stone's sister. The script was most recently penned by Jen Statsky and Travis Helwig, with the original spec script written by Patrick Kang and Michael Levin. The movie is scheduled for release on May 21, 2027.
The production boasts a talented team of producers, including Stone, McCary, and Ali Herting from Fruit Tree, in collaboration with Universal. Shawn Levy and Dan Levine from 21 Laps, known for the success of Backrooms, are also on board as producers, along with Michael H. Weber. Padilla, who made a name for herself on SNL, will make her big studio feature debut with Catch. She joined the show in 2024 and quickly gained recognition for her comedic talent and acting skills, earning praise from The New York Times for her performance. Padilla is represented by UTA, OPE Partners, and Hansen Jacobson.
The project is being overseen by Universal's senior executive vp of production development Erik Baiers and director of production development Jacqueline Garell. With a stellar cast and talented production team, The Catch promises to be an exciting addition to the romantic comedy genre.
