Peter Laviolette Named Head Coach of the Los Angeles Kings: A New Era Begins

The Los Angeles Kings have made a significant coaching decision by selecting Peter Laviolette as their new head coach. Laviolette, a seasoned coach with extensive NHL experience, is set to lead the Kings in the upcoming season. This move comes after D.J. Smith served as the interim coach for the Kings, who faced a disappointing first-round playoff exit against the Colorado Avalanche. Laviolette's appointment follows consideration of other candidates, including Jay Woodcroft and Smith, before ultimately choosing Laviolette.

Peter Laviolette, aged 61, brings a wealth of coaching experience to the Kings, having coached over 1,500 NHL games with various teams such as the New York Rangers, Washington Capitals, Nashville Predators, Philadelphia Flyers, Carolina Hurricanes, and New York Islanders. His coaching career highlights include winning the Stanley Cup with the Carolina Hurricanes in 2006 and reaching the Stanley Cup Final with the Flyers in 2010 and the Predators in 2017. After taking a break from coaching in the previous season following his tenure with the Rangers, Laviolette is now ready to lead the Kings to success in the upcoming season.

With Laviolette's appointment, the Kings have filled their head coaching position, leaving only the Edmonton Oilers and Toronto Maple Leafs with vacancies. Laviolette had previously interviewed with the Maple Leafs before ultimately joining the Kings. The Kings' decision to bring in Laviolette signals their commitment to leveraging his experience and leadership to guide the team to future success on the ice.
