Soft Cell Celebrates 45th Anniversary with The Generations Tour: A Tribute to Synth-Pop Legacy

Soft Cell, the synth-pop duo, is celebrating the 45th anniversary of their debut single, "Tainted Love/Where Did Our Love Go," in 2026. The medley of two 1960s songs helped popularize the new wave genre in the U.S. Lead vocalist Marc Almond and David Ball left a lasting impact with hits like "Sex Dwarf" and "Bedsitter." Soft Cell, led by Almond, is part of The Generations Tour with The Human League and Alison Moyet.

Almond shared his thoughts on being considered iconic by fans who have grown up with their music. The Generations Tour marks the first time Soft Cell will perform with The Human League and Alison Moyet. While there are no plans for joint performances, the tour will visit 21 U.S. cities, including iconic venues like the Hollywood Bowl and Radio City Music Hall.

The tour coincides with Pride month, but Almond won't be able to participate in Pride festivities due to the tight schedule. The new Soft Cell single, "Danceteria," pays tribute to the legendary New York venue and the '80s creative dance club scene. Almond's love for New York and the memories of Danceteria inspired the song.

Soft Cell's music continues to reach audiences through platforms like Sirius XM's First Wave station, connecting with both original fans and new generations. Almond reflects on the enduring popularity of their songs and the impact of streaming on reaching wider audiences. The band's iconic hit, "Tainted Love," has amassed over a billion streams worldwide.

Almond also pays tribute to his late bandmate David Ball, highlighting his role as an electronic music pioneer and their enduring musical chemistry. Soft Cell's performance on the Generations USA Tour will be a celebration of their music and legacy. Fans can catch them live on June 28 at The Met in Philadelphia.
