Babystar": A Social Media Satire Set to Shine in UK Cinemas in Autumn 2026

Joscha Bongard's film "Babystar" has recently secured significant sales, including to Metis Films in the UK and Ireland, where it is set to have a cinema release in autumn 2026. The film has also been sold to various regions such as Latin America, Denmark, Eastern Europe, Slovakia, and Poland, with The Yellow Affair handling global sales. The movie, which marks Bongard's fiction feature debut, revolves around Luca, a teenage girl whose social media fame is actually a family business that she is a part of. When her parents decide to expand the family, Luca is reluctant to share the spotlight as the only 'babystar'.
The film was released theatrically in Germany by Across Nations in April, with a scheduled release in Austria by Filmladen later this month. "Babystar" had its world premiere at the 2025 Toronto film festival and has since been showcased at various other festivals, including Zurich, Hamburg, Warsaw, and Stockholm. The movie features a talented cast led by Maja Bons, Bea Brocks, Liliom Lewald, Joy Ewulu, Maximilian Mundt, and Verena Altenberger.
Director Joscha Bongard expressed his excitement about exploring the UK market further, considering it an important and compelling market for European filmmakers. Ben Metcalf, the founder and director of Metis Films, also shared his enthusiasm for the film, describing it as a thrilling social media satire and praising the bold and exciting cinematic voices it represents. With its unique storyline and talented cast, "Babystar" is poised to captivate audiences with its exploration of the complexities of social media fame and family dynamics.
