The Hook: Showcasing Emerging Songwriters and Talent in the Music Industry

The Hook, a songwriting showcase, was created to provide emerging songwriters with a platform to reach a national audience. The latest episode featured talented artists who have the potential to make a significant impact in the music industry. Co-host Caitlin Cannon, a winner of the 2026 Kerrville Folk Festival New Folk competition, kicked off the show with a celebration of her achievement. The Kerrville New Folk competition has a rich history of showcasing talented artists who have gone on to achieve great success in the music industry.
One of the standout performers on the show was Noosa Al-Sarraj, also known as Girl Haggard, who captivated the audience with her classic country song "You and Vodka Ruined My Life." Another memorable performance came from Nathan Stevens, who delivered an avant-garde and entertaining song titled "Esto Les Digo, Baby." Returning performers like Jason Michael Kelley and Alex Evans impressed the audience with their songs, showcasing their songwriting skills and talent.
Aiden Rackley, with his catchy country song "Katydid," left a lasting impression on the audience and is definitely a name to watch out for in the future. Jake Busby, a fan favorite and regular performer on The Hook, delivered a powerful rendition of his song "One Horse Town." Nitin Anish, a recent college graduate, showcased his songwriting skills with the song "Broken Parts," leaving the audience wanting more.
Johnny Ringo's performance of "Blue-Eyed Jesus" embodied the spirit of "Keep Austin Weird," while "Chill" Phill Brush closed the show with a Jewish spiritual called "Zion Land." Special guest performer and panelist Dallas Burrow provided valuable feedback to the performers and delivered a timely performance of his song "Keep On Trying."
