Absolute Cassandra Cain: The Shadow’s Hand #1 Explores the Origins of a Legendary Heroine

DC Comics is expanding its Absolute universe with a new one-shot comic featuring Cassandra Cain. Titled Absolute Cassandra Cain: The Shadow’s Hand #1, the comic will delve into Cassandra's origins and her connection with Catwoman. It will also explore the backstory of Absolute Joker, who was introduced in Absolute Batman #15. The plot revolves around The Joker's training with the League of Assassins and the rise of Lady Shiva and her daughter, Cassandra Cain, after a deadly event.

Scheduled for release on September 9, Absolute Cassandra Cain: The Shadow’s Hand #1 will be written by Che Grayson and illustrated by Matias Bergara. The main cover art will be provided by Bengal, with Bergara also designing the variant cover. Cassandra Cain first appeared in Absolute Catwoman #1, and her debut in the series was teased by Scott Snyder on ComicPop Returns. The character, created by Kelley Puckett and Damion Scott, made her mainstream debut in Batman #567 in 1999.

Cassandra Cain, the daughter of David Cain and Lady Shiva, was trained from birth to be Ra’s al Ghul’s bodyguard. She was not taught to read or write, relying on combat and body language for communication. Despite her upbringing, she eventually joined Batman and his crimefighting family, taking on various aliases like Batgirl, Black Bat, Kasumi, and Orphan. The upcoming one-shot comic promises to reveal more about Cassandra Cain's journey and her intertwined story with Selina Kyle, aka Catwoman.
