European Film Academy Welcomes 640 New Members from 50 Countries: A Diverse and Talented Addition

The European Film Academy has welcomed 640 new members from 50 countries, with a diverse composition of 51% women, 48% men, and 1% non-binary individuals. Among the new members are acclaimed filmmaker Joachim Trier, talented actor Vicky Krieps, and renowned documentarian Mark Cousins. Trier's recent work, Sentimental Value, earned him the best international feature Oscar, while Krieps is known for her roles in Phantom Thread and other films. Cousins curated the 2026 European Film Awards ceremony.

Other notable additions to the Academy include Belgian director Lukas Dhont, Norwegian actor Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas, and Chilean producer Juan de Dios LarraĆ­n. The new members also reflect a younger demographic, with 19% under the age of 36, in line with the Academy's efforts to enhance the representation of emerging talents. Additionally, 19% of the new members come from the arts and crafts sectors of cinema, signaling the Academy's commitment to diversifying its chapter structure.

Under the leadership of President Juliette Binoche, who assumed the role in 2024, the European Film Academy now boasts a total membership of approximately 5,700 individuals. The inclusion of these new members not only enriches the Academy's talent pool but also underscores its dedication to fostering a vibrant and inclusive film community.
