Revolutionizing Parcel Delivery: Inside SingPost's Automated Sorting Facility

Have you ever wondered about the journey your online purchases take before they arrive at your doorstep? SingPost has recently unveiled its state-of-the-art Automated Parcel Sortation Facility, a $30 million upgrade that is revolutionizing the sorting and shipping process for parcels. This facility is part of SingPost's investment in AI and automation, allowing for faster and more efficient parcel processing during peak seasons like 11.11 and Black Friday.
The parcel delivery process begins with postmen collecting parcels and letters from various locations across the island, including Posting Boxes, POPDrop machines, POPStops, Post Offices, Airmail Transit Centre, and Bulk Mail Centre. These items are then sorted at the Regional eCommerce Logistics Hub in Tampines before being dispatched to homes and businesses by a team of delivery staff and vehicles.
The Automated Parcel Sortation Facility at SingPost's Regional eCommerce Logistics Hub is equipped with cutting-edge technology to streamline parcel processing. With the help of two automated machines, the facility can process up to 400,000 parcels per day, significantly reducing processing times and ensuring faster delivery to customers. The facility handles parcels of all sizes, from small packets to large packages, with precision and efficiency.
The facility features a 3D Sorter machine that can process up to 6,000 flats, letters, small packets, and books per hour. This machine uses advanced technology to scan and sort parcels accurately, ensuring that each item is delivered to the right destination. Additionally, an Intelligent Flexi Sorter is used to handle bulkier parcels, sorting up to 16,200 parcels per hour based on local delivery clusters.
To further enhance efficiency, SingPost has implemented a fleet of autonomous guided vehicles (AGVs) that work in tandem with the sorting machines. These AGVs can carry up to 600kg of items and operate autonomously within the facility, moving parcels between different processing areas. The AGVs help minimize manual handling risks and ensure a smooth flow of operations within the facility.
In addition to backend automation, SingPost is also introducing a new service called SingPost@MyBlock, which allows residents to post letters and small parcels directly from their HDB or condominium blocks. This service aims to make mailing more convenient for customers, eliminating the need to travel to a post office or post box. With the rollout of letterbox nests across residential blocks, residents can expect faster and more accessible mailing options in the near future.
Overall, SingPost's investment in automation and technology is revolutionizing the parcel delivery process, making it faster, more efficient, and more convenient for customers. With state-of-the-art facilities and innovative services like SingPost@MyBlock, SingPost is leading the way in transforming the postal and logistics industry in Singapore.
