USC Trojans Baseball: Offseason Updates and Transfer Portal News
The USC Trojans' baseball season came to an end in the Chapel Hill Super Regional, just one step away from the College World Series. While the remaining eight teams battle it out in Omaha, Nebraska, USC is already looking ahead to the offseason.
According to reports from D1Baseball and On3, USC relief pitcher Matthew Morrell and designated hitter/catcher Augie Lopez have both entered the transfer portal. Morrell, who previously played at Oregon State before joining USC, had his season cut short due to a setback in his recovery from Tommy John surgery. Despite the injury concerns, Morrell is expected to draw interest from multiple programs.
Lopez, on the other hand, was a key contributor to USC's lineup, finishing the season with impressive stats, including a .278 batting average, 19 home runs, and 57 RBIs. He was named the Most Outstanding Player of the College Station Regional, leading USC to four consecutive wins in elimination games.
As Morrell and Lopez explore their options in the transfer portal, USC will be looking to fill the gaps left by their departures. Coach Andy Stankiewicz and the Trojans will need to regroup and prepare for the upcoming season without two valuable players in their lineup.
