Retired British football icon David Beckham is set to be honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in the sports entertainment category. This recognition coincides with the start of the U.S. team's participation in the World Cup. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce introduced the sports entertainment category in 2021 to acknowledge individuals who have made significant contributions to the entertainment industry and have shown a consistent level of excellence. Beckham is being recognized for his work with Studio 99, a content studio that focuses on creating premium documentary features, series, and formats for various global platforms like Netflix, Disney+, and Amazon Prime Video.
The star unveiling ceremony for Beckham will take place outside the Ovation Hollywood shopping complex, with appearances from his wife Victoria, a singer turned fashion designer, and actor Tom Cruise, who has been friends with Beckham since his time with the Galaxy in 2007. Attendees are encouraged to wear their favorite soccer jerseys, apply sunscreen, and stay hydrated during the event. The first recipient of the sports entertainment category was former New York Giants player and "Good Morning America" anchor Michael Strahan in 2023. The late Carl Weathers, known for his acting career after playing for the Oakland Raiders and his role as Apollo Creed in the "Rocky" movies, was the second recipient. Tennis legend Billie Jean King, a pioneer for feminism, received the honor last year.
