Trinity CineAsia has acquired the distribution rights for the family drama "Dear You," which has become a surprise hit in China, grossing over $245 million at the box office. The film, set to release in the UK and Ireland on June 26, follows a grandson on a journey to Bangkok to find his wealthy grandfather, only to discover a hidden truth about his family's past. Through a series of remittance letters, the film reveals the sacrifices and devotion of previous generations.
Led by a relatively unknown cast, "Dear You" is a heartfelt story told in the Teochew language, shedding light on the challenges faced by Chinese migrants in the past. Director Lan Hongchun's third feature film has resonated with audiences, showcasing the power of authentic storytelling and word-of-mouth promotion. The film's success has made it one of China's top-grossing films this year, second only to the comedy "Pegasus 3."
Trinity CineAsia's managing director, Cedric Behrel, expressed excitement about bringing "Dear You" to audiences in the UK, Ireland, and France, especially to Asian communities eager to see their history and culture portrayed on screen. The film's production was supported by King Ant Pictures and Beijing Damai Entertainment Culture, with distribution handled by Beijing Damai Entertainment in China and select Asian territories. Sales for the rest of the world are managed by Beijing Hugoeast Media.
