Blizzard Entertainment Files Lawsuit Against Project Ascension for Copyright Infringement and Cybercriminal Activity

Blizzard Entertainment has filed a lawsuit against the creators of Project Ascension, a private World of Warcraft server, alleging copyright infringement and other violations. The complaint states that Project Ascension has distributed millions of pirated copies of WoW game software and is hosted on Russian servers associated with cybercriminal activity. The lawsuit aims to uncover the identities of those involved with Project Ascension, which offers a unique classless gaming experience where players can combine elements from different WoW classes to create their characters. The server generates revenue through the sale of in-game currency and items, bypassing the need for a WoW subscription. Blizzard claims that Project Ascension has caused financial harm and violated its intellectual property rights. The company previously shut down another player-run server, Turtle WoW, after a legal battle and settlement. Other private WoW servers have also closed following legal action from Blizzard.
