Shanghai International Film Festival Embraces Technology Innovation and AI Integration

The 28th Shanghai International Film Festival commenced with the introduction of a new Technology Creation and Fabrication Unit and a parallel press conference for the Shanghai High-Tech Films and Televisions City in Songjiang district. The event highlighted Shanghai's efforts to integrate film production with advanced technology. Officials emphasized building a robust industrial ecosystem using AI and ultra-high-definition tools, fostering new cinematic aesthetics through technology, and using AI responsibly to enhance artistic and creative judgment. The G60 Science and Technology Innovation Corridor and Songjiang University Town were recognized as key drivers of the district's AI-driven film production ecosystem.

The China Film Association emphasized the importance of the upcoming 15th Five-Year Plan period for the film industry to advance in technology development. Practitioners were urged to leverage new tools to enhance creative workflows, expand the industrial ecosystem through a "film plus" model, and strengthen copyright protection. The Shanghai High-Tech Films and Televisions City showcased its full-chain digital and intelligent ecological matrix, featuring platforms for copyright trading, interactive short drama production, content incubation, AI-powered creative production, and film-and-cultural-tourism integration.

SFC Haopu Smart Industrial Community unveiled its AI+ Digital Content Industry Innovation Platform, showcasing AIGC short dramas and announcing investments under the Haowen Film Technology Fund. Cooperation agreements were signed with KPS, the Institute of Language Sciences of Shanghai International Studies University, AltStory, and Kuaizi to focus on data sets, linguistic corpus building, and AI agent research. Cross-regional partnership deals were formalized, including collaborations between SFC Haopu and the Bund FTC for digital content production and AIGC technology application, as well as agreements with Anhui Film Group for the restoration of classic films in 4K and the innovative exploitation of film and television IPs.

The opening events of the festival attracted over 300 guests, including representatives from culture and tourism authorities, the Film Art Center of China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, and industry bodies such as the Shanghai Radio, Film and Television Production Industry Association. A SIFFORUM session on "Smart Tech, Immersive Worlds, the Next Film Revolution" took place following the ceremony. The event highlighted the growing intersection of film production and advanced technology, setting the stage for further innovation and collaboration in the industry.
