Executive producer Ben Watkins shared that the show aims to delve into aspects not typically covered in documentaries or old footage. The series, greenlit in 2024, has already completed filming for its first season, set to premiere on Prime Video later this year, focusing on Ali's early boxing career from 1960 to 1964.
The narrative of Season 1 follows Ali's journey from winning the gold medal in 1960 to claiming the heavyweight title in 1964, shedding light on his personal growth and transformation during this period. The show's executive producers include Ali's widow, Lonnie Ali, and Michael B. Jordan through his Outlier Society banner, in collaboration with Amazon MGM Studios.
Jaalen Best takes on the role of Muhammad Ali in the series, with Omari Hardwick and Dana Gourrier portraying Ali's parents, Cassius "Cash" Clay Sr. and Odessa "Bird" Clay. Kai Parham plays Ali's brother Rudy, while Amin Joseph embodies Sonny Liston, Ali's rival in the ring. Michael Ealy also features in a recurring role as Malcolm X, adding depth to the narrative.
