Exploring Telehealth Trends: FAIR Health's Quarterly Regional Tracker Reveals Insights into Telehealth Utilization and Trends in the US
FAIR Health has introduced its Quarterly Telehealth Regional Tracker, a successor to the Monthly Telehealth Regional Tracker, with the release of first quarter 2026 telehealth data. The interactive map allows users to explore telehealth trends in the US census regions, including diagnostic categories, medical claim lines, patient telehealth claims, urban versus rural usage, and procedure categories. The data focus on the commercially insured population, excluding Medicare and Medicaid.
Mental health conditions were the top diagnostic category nationally and in all regions, with variations across age groups. Overweight and obesity ranked third nationally and in the Midwest and Northeast, and fifth in the South and West. Telehealth utilization, measured by the percent of medical claim lines, increased nationally and in all regions from the fourth quarter of 2025 to the first quarter of 2026.
The percentage of patients with a telehealth claim also rose nationally and in all regions during the same period. Urban areas had higher telehealth utilization compared to rural areas, but rural areas showed greater growth in telehealth claims. Established patient office services and psychotherapy were the top procedure categories nationally and in all regions.
