Partner With Australia (UK): Fostering Creative Collaboration in Film and TV Industries

A group of 37 Australian producers and writers are currently in London for a special event called Partner With Australia (UK) at BFI Southbank. The event aims to foster creative and commercial collaboration between the Australian and UK industries. The Australian delegation includes representatives from companies like Ludo Studio, Easy Tiger, and writers such as David Hannam and Giula Sandler. On the UK side, companies like Warp Films, Bad Wolf, and Fremantle are participating.

Screen Australia and Ausfilm are funding the Australian delegation's trip to the UK, providing each member with A$10,000 for travel expenses. The event includes networking opportunities with UK sales agents and panel discussions featuring industry experts from both countries. The UK and Australia have a long history of collaboration, with the UK being Australia's second most common co-production partner after Canada.

As financing becomes more challenging, international co-productions are increasingly important for the industry. Collaboration between the UK and Australia has been on the rise in recent years, with several official co-productions in both film and TV. The two countries share cultural similarities and have a shared history, making collaboration a natural fit.

The event aims to strengthen ties between the UK and Australia and promote more official co-productions in the future. The two countries' tax incentives and legal systems are compatible, making it easier for producers to work together. Additionally, a new regulation in Australia requires SVOD services to invest in local programming, with official co-productions counting towards this requirement.

Screen Australia is actively working to increase official co-productions between the UK and Australia, recognizing the benefits of such collaborations for both countries. The event in London serves as a platform for industry professionals to connect, explore opportunities, and pave the way for future collaborations.
