Revamping the Running Game: Anthony Woods' Return and the Bruins' Offensive Line Upgrades

The Bruins struggled with their running game last season, ranking last in the conference in rushing yards and touchdowns. To address this issue, Bob Chesney brought in Wayne Knight from James Madison to bolster the running back room. Anthony Woods, a former standout at Idaho, also returned to the team. Woods had a successful career at Idaho, earning accolades and leading the Big Sky in rushing yards and touchdowns. However, a season-ending ACL injury at Utah hindered his performance in his first year with the Bruins.

Woods is known for his power running style and ability to break tackles. Despite his limited receiving yards in the past, Woods adapted his game to become a reliable pass-catching back for the Bruins. In the 2025 season, he led the team in all-purpose yards with 541, showcasing his versatility. With Knight expected to be the starting running back this season, Woods may not see as many carries as before but can still contribute effectively on the ground.

The Bruins also made significant improvements to their offensive line by adding players like Jordan Davis and Riley Robell through the transfer portal. Retaining key lineman Eugene Brooks further strengthens the unit. With a revamped offensive line and familiar faces like Knight and Robell in the mix, Woods is poised to benefit from a more cohesive and effective front line. As Woods enters this season fully recovered from his ACL injury, he has the potential to make a significant impact for the Bruins and help elevate their running game.
