Laugh Out Loud: Celebrating Laurel & Hardy at Film Forum NYC

This summer, NYC will host a two-week festival celebrating the comedic genius of Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy. The Laurel & Hardy retrospective at Film Forum will showcase over 50 of their classic comedy films from July 10 to July 23. This event commemorates the 100th anniversary of their collaboration with producer Hal Roach, and we are thrilled to unveil the festival's trailer.

The festival will feature newly restored versions of their iconic movies and short films, such as Sons of the Desert, Way Out West, Babes in Toyland, and The Music Box, which won an Oscar for Best Live Action Short Comedy in 1932. Laurel & Hardy's enduring popularity is evident worldwide, with affectionate nicknames like "Stanlio e Ollio" in Italy, "Dick und Dorf" in Germany, and "El Gordo y el Flaco" in Spanish-speaking countries. To cater to their international fan base, some of their early works were produced in multiple languages, allowing audiences to enjoy their humor regardless of language barriers.

The Laurel & Hardy festival is a collaboration with The Sons of the Desert, a Laurel & Hardy Appreciation Society established in New York in 1965. The event would not be possible without the support of individuals like Jack Roth, Grand Sheik of the New York City Founding Tent of the Sons of the Desert, and organizations like SabuCat Productions, Blackhawk Film Collection, and UCLA Film & Television Archive. Join us for this unique opportunity to experience the timeless comedy of Laurel & Hardy on the big screen.

Don't miss this chance to celebrate the comedic legacy of Laurel & Hardy at the Film Forum in NYC this summer. Get ready to laugh out loud as you enjoy their classic films and short subjects in a special retrospective that pays tribute to their enduring appeal.
