Warner Bros. Casts Wagner Moura as Villain in Ocean’s Eleven Prequel: A Period Piece Set at the 1962 Monaco Grand Prix
Warner Bros. has secured Wagner Moura to play the villain in its upcoming Ocean’s Eleven prequel. The film, set to start shooting in late July in Paris and then move to the south of France, will also star Margot Robbie and Bradley Cooper. Cooper will not only star but also direct the film, with Robbie producing through her LuckyChap banner alongside Tom Ackerley. Unlike the previous Ocean’s movies featuring George Clooney, this prequel will be a period piece set at the 1962 Monaco Grand Prix.
Robbie hinted at the premise of the film at CinemaCon, suggesting that it will focus on Danny Ocean's parents, played by Robbie and Cooper. While specific character details are being kept under wraps, Moura is rumored to be playing the villain in the story. The Ocean’s franchise is known for casting notable actors as antagonists, with Andy Garcia, Vince Cassell, and Al Pacino taking on those roles in previous films.
Moura gained international recognition through his work in Brazil's Elite Squad movies and Netflix's Narcos series. His performance in the political drama Secret Agent garnered critical acclaim, earning him awards at the Cannes Film Festival and the Golden Globes, as well as an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor. In addition to his upcoming role in the Ocean’s Eleven prequel, Moura will also star in the horror thriller The Last House alongside Greta Lee, set to be released on Netflix in August.
