Buffalo Bills Sign Former UFL Standout Ian Wheeler to One-Year Deal
The Buffalo Bills have recently signed Ian Wheeler, a former Chicago Bears running back and current UFL standout, to a one-year deal. Wheeler had a successful season with the Louisville Kings in the United Football League, rushing for 541 yards on 85 carries in 11 games. He also set a UFL single-game record with four rushing touchdowns and was named the United Bowl MVP for his performance in the championship game.
Before his time in the UFL, Wheeler was signed by the Bears in 2024 as an undrafted free agent after playing college football at Howard University from 2019 to 2023. He was known for his standout performance during training camp with the Bears, where he rushed for 100 yards and two touchdowns in two games, including a game against the Bills. Unfortunately, his NFL journey was interrupted by a torn ACL in the third preseason game of 2024, leading to his release from the team with an injury settlement.
Following his recovery, Wheeler spent time on the New Orleans Saints practice squad in 2025 before joining the UFL and ultimately signing with the Buffalo Bills. He will be wearing jersey number 27 for the team.
