The horror genre is currently experiencing a surge in popularity, particularly with original content. Films like Obsession and Backrooms have achieved significant success at the box office, surpassing expectations and setting records for their respective studios. Raindance Film Festival, established in London in 1993, is the largest independent film festival in the U.K. The festival is expanding its horror presence by introducing the Roger Corman Award for Best Horror Feature and showcasing a diverse lineup of genre films.
Raindance's 34th edition will feature Icon Awards presented to Miriam Margolyes, Brian Cox, and Lloyd Kaufman, among others. The festival lineup includes notable names like Connor Storrie, Kit Harington, Jane Fonda, and Robert Englund. Corcoran's production company, FareStream Pictures, which focuses on telling bold stories through women and underrepresented voices, aligns with Raindance's mission to support emerging filmmakers and promote collaboration within the horror community.
With Corcoran and FareStream Pictures on board, Raindance's new horror programming aims to strengthen connections between filmmakers, fans, and the global independent horror community. The festival, taking place in central London, runs through June 26, offering audiences a diverse selection of horror films and celebrating the creativity and innovation within the genre.
