London Marathon 2027: A Historic Two-Day Event Celebrating Record Participation and Fundraising

The London Marathon is set to make history in 2027 by being held over two days for the first time ever. The event will take place on Saturday, April 24, and Sunday, April 25, with different groups leading the mass event each day. The marathon will see elite women, elite female para-athletes, championship, and 'good for age' women participating on one day, while elite men, elite male para-athletes, championship, and 'good for age' men will lead the event on the other day. The format for the event will be confirmed in the coming months.

This change will make the 2027 London Marathon the largest it has ever been, accommodating a record number of participants. With 1.33 million people entering the ballot for next year's event, the decision to expand to 100,000 runners across two days aims to meet the high demand for places. The CEO of London Marathon Events, Hugh Brasher, believes that this expansion will enable more people, charities, and communities to participate in the marathon, potentially raising over £150 million for good causes and providing a £400 million social and economic benefit to the UK economy.

Described as the most ambitious evolution of the London Marathon to date, the 2027 TCS London Marathon double is a one-time-only reimagining of the event and a city-wide celebration of activity. Mayor of London Sadiq Khan expressed his excitement about the marathon expanding into a two-day event in 2027, emphasizing London's status as the sporting capital of the world. The unique two-day format will allow a record 100,000 participants to take part, creating the largest fundraising moment in UK sporting history and supporting numerous charities.
