Chicago Bears Training Camp Preview: Left Tackle Position Battle Heats Up

NFL teams have concluded their organized team activities (OTAs) and minicamps, with training camp set to begin in late July. The preseason kicks off on Aug. 6 with the Carolina Panthers facing the Arizona Cardinals in the Hall of Fame Game. The preseason schedule includes games from Aug. 13-15, Aug. 20-23, and Aug. 27-29. The Chicago Bears are gearing up for training camp, with a notable position battle to watch this summer.

Ozzy Trapilo was expected to be the starting left tackle for the Bears, but a ruptured patellar tendon in the playoffs led to uncertainty. Charles Benedet, who played the most snaps at LT last season, is a strong contender for the position. However, Elijah Jones, with 44 starts in four seasons, brings experience but has struggled with consistency. The return of Wills, a former PFWA All-Rookie Team member, after a season off due to injury adds intrigue to the competition. Lastly, third-round pick Amegadjie, who didn't play last season, is also in the mix for the left tackle spot.

As the Bears head into training camp, the battle for the starting left tackle position will be a focal point. With Trapilo recovering from injury, Benedet, Jones, Wills, and Amegadjie will compete for the coveted role. The preseason will be crucial in determining who will anchor the Bears' offensive line for the upcoming season.
