Lisa Lu Celebrates 'The Arch': A Tribute to Chinese Arthouse Cinema

Lisa Lu, who recently received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 28th Shanghai International Film Festival, attended a post-screening event for the classic Chinese-language arthouse film "The Arch," in which she starred. Celebrating the film's directorial debut by Cecile Tang Shu Shuen, Lu made a surprise appearance at the event, receiving applause from the audience.
Originally not cast in the lead role of "The Arch," Lu stepped in when the initial actor declined the part. She expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to be a part of the film and praised both the director's cultural depth and the impactful score by Lui Tsun-Yuen.
"The Arch" is renowned for its use of traditional Chinese poetry and painting in its visual storytelling, setting a high standard for Chinese-language arthouse cinema. Following a 4K restoration in 2025, the film was showcased at the Cannes Film Festival and later screened in Shanghai.
Lisa Lu's illustrious career includes her role as Ah Ma in "Crazy Rich Asians" and her recognition as the oldest person to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. With memberships in prestigious industry organizations and the title of "Living Legend" from the Chinese government, Lu continues to be a respected figure in the film industry.
