Michigan Lands Three-Star Tight End Christian Hanshaw to Bolster 2027 Recruiting Class

Michigan recently secured a commitment from three-star tight end Christian Hanshaw, who was a top target at the position. Hanshaw, ranked as the No. 29 tight end recruit in the country and the No. 5 prospect in Utah, spent Victors Weekend with the Wolverines before making his decision. He plans to serve a two-year mission after high school, making him essentially a class of 2029 prospect. Tight ends coach Freddie Whittingham made him a priority this year.
Standing at 6-5 and 230 pounds, Hanshaw also received offers from USC, Oregon, Texas A&M, Tennessee, and others. Before committing to Michigan, his top group included UCLA, Utah, and BYU. Known for his willingness to block, Hanshaw sees himself as a dominant force in the C gap and aims to create mismatches outside the box. He believes his skills align well with Michigan's tight end room, given the staff's track record at the position.
Hanshaw's commitment adds to Michigan's 2027 class, which includes other notable recruits such as defensive lineman Xavier Muhammad, wide receiver Quentin Burrell, edge rusher Recarder Kitchen, safety Tavares Harrington, tight end Colt Lumpris, offensive lineman Jakari LIpsey, edge rushers Jayce Brewer and Ifeanyi Emedobi, quarterback Kamden Lopati, running back Tyson Robinson, cornerbacks Blake Jenkins and Darius Johnson, offensive lineman Sidney Rouleau, safety Charles Woodson Jr., athlete Lundon Hampton, and linebacker Brayden Watson. The addition of Hanshaw strengthens Michigan's recruiting class and adds depth to their tight end position.
