Orillia Teen Arrested for Distributing Antisemitic Flyers: Community Response and Law Enforcement Action

A teenager from Orillia has been arrested and is facing charges for distributing antisemitic flyers in various local neighborhoods. The Orillia OPP apprehended a 15-year-old in the early hours of Sunday after receiving reports of a suspicious person placing flyers on vehicles in the Barrie Road and Walker Avenue area. This incident marks the third occurrence of hate speech-motivated flyer distribution in Orillia, with previous incidents reported in May and June. Witnesses have described the individual as dressed in all black clothing and wearing a mask while dropping off the flyers.

Following an investigation into the distribution of hate speech flyers, the Orillia OPP have charged the 15-year-old from Orillia in connection with all three occurrences. The accused is currently in custody awaiting a bail hearing, and the Orillia OPP's major crime unit, along with the OPP Hate Crime Unit, are assisting in the investigation. Due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the name of the accused will not be disclosed by the OPP.
