Chimney Town: Frozen in Time" Secures Distribution Deals Ahead of Annecy Animation Film Festival

Best Friend Forever, a sales company based in Brussels, has secured distribution deals for the Japanese animated film "Chimney Town: Frozen in Time." The film has been acquired by French distributor Arthouse Films for France, HBO Max for Eastern Europe, and Serbian MegaCom Film for Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, North Macedonia, Montenegro, and Slovenia. The announcement of these sales comes ahead of the film's screening at the Annecy Animation Film Festival, following its premiere at the Berlinale earlier this year.
Directed by Yusuke Hirota and produced by Studio4°C, "Chimney Town: Frozen in Time" is a sequel to the 2020 animated feature "Poupelle of Chimney Town." The story follows Lubicchi as he explores the mysterious Millennium Fortress, where time has stood still for a century. His quest to uncover the truth behind the frozen clock at 11:59 and reunite with his friend Poupelle leads him on a fantastical adventure exploring courage, friendship, and the power of belief.
Hirota, the director of both films, expressed his excitement about revisiting the world of Chimney Town and the Millennium Fortress. He highlighted the unique character designs and artistic direction inspired by childlike play and craftsmanship. The film's production involved a blend of 3D and 2D animation, aiming to create a colorful and diverse world that captures emotional depth through the characters' expressions.
With music by Japanese pianist Harumi Fuki, "Chimney Town" offers a family-friendly yet emotionally resonant viewing experience. The film's blend of storytelling, music, and artistry creates a compelling cinematic journey that sets it apart in this year's Annecy selection. Best Friend Forever has initiated sales for the film following its premiere at the Berlinale and is in discussions for additional territories.
In addition to "Chimney Town," Best Friend Forever is also presenting the French cut-out feature "Blaise" at the Annecy Contrechamp selection, following its premiere at the Cannes ACID selection. The company continues to bring unique and engaging films to international audiences, showcasing a diverse range of storytelling and artistic styles at prestigious film festivals.
