The app, known internally as "Arena," is expected to utilize a video game-like points system rather than real money betting, although the possibility of incorporating real money wagers in the future has not been ruled out. Prediction markets gained popularity during the 2024 U.S. presidential election and have since become a popular asset class for investors to bet on various events, including monetary policy and sports tournaments. Platforms like Robinhood and Interactive Brokers have introduced event contracts to cater to this growing trend. The app is intended to operate independently from Meta's existing social networking apps like Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger.
