The Edge Becomes Irish Citizen: A Homecoming Story

On June 23, 2025, U2 guitarist The Edge officially became an Irish citizen in a ceremony held in County Kerry, Ireland. Despite being born to Welsh parents in Essex, England, The Edge has always felt a strong connection to Ireland, where he was raised after moving to Dublin with his family in 1962. During the citizenship ceremony, he expressed his deep ties to Ireland and stated that the country will always be his home. The Edge, whose real name is David Howell Evans, joined forces with Bono, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen, Jr. while they were students at Mount Temple Comprehensive School in Dublin. Together, they formed U2 in 1978, propelling the band to international fame as one of the most successful rock groups in history.
