Asa Butterfield, known for his role in Sex Education, has been cast as Brian Epstein, The Beatles' manager, in the upcoming TV series Hamburg Days. The show will also feature Jonny Lee Miller as Paul McCartney's father, Jim McCartney, and Christine Tremarco as Aunt Mimi, John Lennon's guardian. Other additions to the cast include Darci Shaw, Ryan Sampson, Archie George, Jorden Myrie, Lea Drinda, Tash Major, and Louis McCartney.
The six-part series, backed by German network ZDF and acquired by the BBC, is based on Klaus Voormann's book and follows the early years of The Beatles. The show will explore the band's interactions with Klaus Voormann and Astrid Kirchherr in Hamburg's St. Pauli red-light district in the 1960s, leading to their rise to fame as the iconic music phenomenon.
Hamburg Days is created by showrunner Christian Schwochow and head writer Jamie Carragher. The series is directed by Schwochow and Laura Lackmann, with Frank Lamm as the director of photography. Klaus Voormann serves as a consultant to the show, and the executive producers include Benjamin Benedict, Quirin Berg, Max Wiedemann, Andrew Eaton, Justin Thomson, Stuart Ford, Lourdes Diaz, Miguel A. Palos Jr., Isabel Haug, and Katharina Haase.
