Former Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen Explores Culinary Delights in Retirement

Former Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen has been exploring the world of food reviews in his post-retirement life. Recently, he tried out a drink called ‘The Michael Jackson’ and gave it a thumbs-up, mentioning that it paired well with prata. In the past, sarabat stalls were popular roadside stalls in Singapore serving local drinks. Dr Ng visited a modern version of such a stall at ABCD Corner Restaurant along Zion Road in Havelock, where he tried ‘The Michael Jackson’, an iced drink costing S$4, made with white soy bean milk or curd and chin chow (grass jelly). He described it as refreshing and a good match for prata.
Dr Ng’s culinary adventures have not been limited to Singapore. He shared a photo of himself enjoying an egg sandwich and Onicha, a Japanese barley tea, in a Japanese forest. He also sampled street food in Hong Kong, reminiscing about similar experiences in Singapore nearly 50 years ago. Despite stepping down as Minister for Defence last April after a long political career, Dr Ng seems to be relishing his retirement by exploring different cuisines and sharing his food experiences with his followers.
