The Independents Acquires Majority Stake in Phantasm Group: A New Era of Creative Collaboration

The Independents, a luxury and lifestyle communications powerhouse, has acquired a majority stake in Phantasm Group, a Paris-based collective known for its film banner Vixens, which supported James Gray's "Paper Tiger." Founded by Gary Farkas, Clément Lepoutre, and Olivier Muller, Phantasm Group comprises three labels: Vixens, a film banner that has backed over 20 feature films including Jacques Audiard's "Emilia Pérez;" Phantasm, a commercials and music video banner behind campaigns for top brands like Hermès, Prada, and Dior; and Phenomena, a photography agency launched in 2022.

This acquisition marks The Independents' expansion into entertainment and long-form storytelling, aligning with the trend of brands venturing into films, entertainment partnerships, and cultural IP. With a strong presence in the fashion world through agencies like Karla Otto and Prodject, The Independents aims to enhance its creative offerings with Phantasm Group's expertise in cinematic production and artist management.

The deal allows Phantasm Group to maintain its creative and operational independence while benefiting from The Independents' global network. Gary Farkas, Clément Lepoutre, and Olivier Muller will continue to lead Phantasm, Vixens, and Phenomena, leveraging the partnership to strengthen their presence in key markets such as the U.S., the Middle East, and Asia. The collaboration is expected to drive innovation across brand, culture, film, and entertainment, with a focus on expanding international reach and scaling up their work.

During the Cannes Film Festival, Vixens showcased an ambitious film slate featuring projects from acclaimed directors like Kim Chapiron, Nima Nourizadeh, and Yann Demange. The partnership between The Independents and Phantasm Group sets the stage for a new chapter of growth and collaboration, combining their creative talents to push boundaries and deliver compelling storytelling to global audiences.
