Travel Tips for FIFA World Cup Fans: TSA's Drone Warning and Ranch Dressing Regulations

The United States men's national soccer team suffered a 3-2 defeat to Türkiye in their final Group D match, with Kaan Ayhan scoring the winning goal in the last moments of the game. As fans from around the world flock to Los Angeles for the FIFA World Cup, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has been preparing for the surge in passenger traffic at Los Angeles International Airport. The TSA is cautioning fans against flying drones near airports or stadiums, as doing so could result in federal penalties.

Los Angeles is a key hub for international travelers during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with an influx of fans expected to attend matches across the United States, Mexico, and Canada. With over 2.85 million fans attending the first 44 matches of the tournament and stadiums operating at near full capacity, travelers are advised to allow extra time for travel, especially on match days, and to plan their transportation to and from LAX accordingly.

TSA Acting Deputy Administrator Adam Stahl emphasized the agency's concern about unauthorized drone flights near airports and stadiums, where temporary flight restrictions are in effect. The Federal Aviation Administration has prohibited drones from flying over World Cup matches and official fan events in the U.S., with fines of up to $100,000, criminal charges, and drone confiscation for violators. More than 300 unauthorized drones have been seized near World Cup venues since the tournament began.

In addition to drone-related issues, the TSA has reminded travelers that ranch dressing is considered a liquid under federal screening rules. A TSA social media post explaining the 3-1-1 carry-on rule for liquids, including ranch dressing, has garnered significant attention, especially from international visitors attempting to bring bottles of the condiment back home. Bottles of ranch dressing larger than 3.4 ounces must be packed in checked luggage to comply with TSA regulations.

As fans continue to enjoy the excitement of the FIFA World Cup, the TSA's efforts to ensure security and compliance with travel regulations are crucial for a smooth and safe travel experience for all attendees.
