Young Hockey Stars: Mathis Preston and the Ruck Twins Shine in NHL Draft

Mathis Preston, a young hockey player from Penticton, had a significant moment in his career when he was drafted into the NHL by the Anaheim Ducks in the second round. At 17 years old, Preston showcased his skills in the WHL while playing for the Spokane Chiefs and Vancouver Giants, where he scored 18 goals and accumulated 44 points in 46 games during the 2025-2026 season. Hailing from the Penticton Minor Hockey Association, Preston also represented Canada in the U18 world championship, contributing six points in five games.
Preston's journey to the NHL draft was made even more special as his childhood friends, Liam and Markus Ruck, who are twins from Osoyoos, were also selected in the draft by the Pittsburgh Penguins. The trio had previously played together at the Okanagan Hockey Academy in Penticton from 2020 to 2024, forming a strong bond both on and off the ice. This exciting development marks a significant milestone in the careers of these talented young athletes, highlighting their dedication and hard work in pursuing their hockey dreams.
