Deep Sky Makes History with North America's First Verified Carbon Removal Credits through DAC Technology

Deep Sky, a Canadian company, has achieved a significant milestone in North American climate innovation by issuing the continent's first verified carbon removal credits through direct air capture (DAC) technology. These credits have been acquired by tech giant Microsoft and the Royal Bank of Canada, highlighting the importance of innovative approaches to reducing carbon emissions. DAC technology sets itself apart from traditional carbon capture methods by extracting CO2 directly from the atmosphere rather than capturing it at industrial emission sources. Deep Sky's CEO, Alex Petre, emphasized Canada's dedication to leading in carbon removal technologies, with their Alberta pilot facility capturing 3,000 metric tons of CO2 annually. The demand for verified carbon credits on an international scale remains high, particularly as tech companies grapple with rising emissions from the expansion of AI data centers. Deep Sky's initiative is in line with global efforts and paves the way for a potential large-scale commercial project pending the successful outcomes of its pilot operations.
