Forever Grateful: A Tribute to the Grateful Dead at Haight Street Art Center

A new exhibit dedicated to the iconic band, the Grateful Dead, is scheduled to debut in San Francisco. The exhibit, titled Forever Grateful, will be showcased at the Haight Street Art Center and will feature a diverse collection of artwork, instruments, and memorabilia celebrating the band's legacy. With over 400 pieces on display, including paintings, pen and ink drawings, original lithographs, vinyl records, and photographs, the exhibit aims to honor the band's cultural influence and artistry.
In addition to commemorating the Grateful Dead, the exhibit also marks the 10th anniversary of the Haight Street Art Center. One of the highlights of the exhibit is a scaled-down replica of the band's renowned Wall of Sound audio system, which will play live recordings from various stages of the band's career. Dennis McNally, the exhibition adviser and Grateful Dead historian, emphasizes that Forever Grateful pays tribute to the band's spirit and impact on music and culture.
Trixie Garcia, daughter of the late Jerry Garcia, expresses her family's delight in the Grateful Dead exhibition at the Haight Street Art Center. She acknowledges the band's significant role in the cultural revolution of the 60s and the lasting influence they have had worldwide. The exhibit serves as a reminder of the unique connection between San Francisco and the Grateful Dead, capturing the essence of both.
To kick off the opening weekend of the exhibit, Grahame Lesh & Friends will perform on Saturday at 2 p.m. PT, adding a live music element to the celebration. Forever Grateful will be on display at the Haight Street Art Center until Sept. 20, offering visitors an immersive experience into the world of the Grateful Dead. Following this exhibit, a second installment, Forever Grateful, Golden Gate Park, will open at Hall of Flowers, Golden Gate Park, on Sept. 5 and run through Oct. 25.
